“The start of a conversation” – Ottawa teacher answers the call of the TRC with J4IW

Ottawa high school teacher Amanda Anderson turned her participation in recent J4IW workshop into a fully-fleshed learning module and shared how she did it with this superb article in the newsletter of Ontario History and Social Science Teacher’s Association (OHASSTA).

As she see it, teaming up her students with J4IW gives them an opportunities to create gestures of reconciliation that could also become something meaningful to them personally.

Here’s how she describes her own commitment:

Hopefully, students of the future will have information about residential schools, treaties, and Indigenous contributions to Canada build into their mandatory graduation requirements.  But until that point, I will keep factoring reconciliation into my online and blended classroom practices.

Well said Amanda!
